Butter My Biscuits? Yes, Please

If you know anything about me, you know I love biscuits and gravy. It’s my one weakness in life while trying to do this healthy thing. It’s also the main reason while I just can’t fathom the idea of going vegetarian or vegan.

So when I got invited to check out a new restaurant that is currently in the planning phase, I said well what kind of food is it? Pancakes, waffles, biscuits and gravy…stop right there…I will be there. This is an Orlando brunch cafe called Butter My Biscuits! With a name like that, you know it’s gonna be good.

And I wasn’t disappointed. I arrived to find about 40 other local bloggers standing in line to get in. I could already smell the sausage when I stepped out of my car.

I asked straight away for the biscuits and gravy, and ONLY the biscuits and gravy. The first bite, I knew these people knew what they were doing. The gravy was so smooth, and the sausage was crumbled very fine so there were little bits in every bite. Not the fast kind where the cook cuts sausage into chunks and just throws it in the gravy. You could tell this gravy started with sausage and the gravy ingredients added later.

I spent a few minutes with the owner Amy Jones and her husband (I forget his name, sorry!). These people are not chefs by trade, they just use recipes they make at home. And they didn’t have the usual “my grandmother raised me in the kitchen with recipes handed down by her grandmother” like every other new restaurant these days.

Amy has been managing restaurants for over 20 years for a variety of breakfast and brunch chains around the country. Her husband has been working hospitality for Hilton hotels for 25 years. Together they bring a unique perspective to running a restaurant. With a focus on customer service and smooth operating techniques, their plan is to open 10 locations in Florida in the next 7 years.

I wish them well. With food like this, they should be highly successful if they run it right.
